My guess is to sell you new digital receivers. There is currently no mandatory date set for FM or AM radio to go digital nor have I heard of any intent to make it mandatory. For FM, the added quality will me minimal as FM broadcast uses a fairly wide bandwidth. Most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference. AM would sound better but I don't know if people would be willing to spend the money for HD talk radio. I sure wouldn't.

So the radio stations can make more money for the advertising on the HD stations.

Radio is dying, why would anyone want HD when its the same music and bad DJ and censorship that is on normal radio.

Use and Ipod or Satelite.
