They are two completely different media. HD is based on a local station’s subcarrier and is “supposedly” high definition - not many stations are participating and if they are they don’t promote it.
This is where local stations that have switched formats dump their old Smooth Jazz (and other) formats.
Satellite is digital programming offered nationwide and distributed via —satellite! As indicated.
HD is free and requires a new receiver, satellite requires a subscription - and a different receiver.
IMHO, you’re better off with Sirius/XM. Howard is available on both satellite services. No one ever forgot - except one guy who I heard was in a coma.

And there are articles saying that Howard Stern is a 10th of what he was when he middle fingered radio in 2005 publicity wise
With that said, broadcast radio hasn’t offered anything new to listeners with HD radio yet that has made them want to go out and buy it. I think as the feature is added to radios will be the only way it’s used by most people.
Siriurs/Xm won’t be any better soon as terminations have been happening left and right as big rumor is a merging of XM and Sirius programming come November 5th meaning less variety however still more in quanity than quality

They’ll be merged soon, and it won’t matter.
