cashplaya192002 asked:
Is it just like really good quality music like on the radio and CDs but is it really any different than a regular CD player, because i have a nice like $200 kenwood and would it be worth it to like downgrade to a $140 Sony HD Radio or something

Apparantly HD radios fine tune between radio frequencies that a normal radio gets. Unless you listen to the radio a lot, its not worth it at all. To my knowledge, it doesn’t affect CD, or any other function…Just gets you a few more channels.
See it this way…its just like regular tv and HDTV…you get higher definition channels…
It does fine tune a radio station to make it come in clearer. And it’s supposed to clear up a cd as well but the difference is minimal in the quality of a cd. If you listen to cd’s and not the radio, don’t change anything.
Alright, I’m going to answer this question because it is obvious that the previous people do not know what they are talking about or have one for that matter. Alright a HD radio has something other radios don’t, a built in HD tuner. A HD ready radio does not have a built in tuner, instead you have to buy external one for it. This can run anywhere from 100 to 200 dollars more than the radio. Obviously, there is no reason for it to cause a difference in the quality of a CD. I believe that rodger is a little below average in the brightness department…. Anyway, Yes there is a major difference in the quality of a HD radio , and you can tune to high bands and low bands of your station , I.E. the base station might be 94.5 but you would have a high band and a low band station , making 3 stations at once. the other 2 stations are always commercial free. That may not always be the case , some stations choose to air no HD radio, others just one sideband. Now, to your options. If you look at radios descriptions there is a sensitivity rating, Sony produces very poor car audio equipment, don’t know why the difference in their regular stuff. but this shows you how strong a signal has to be to recive it and how clear. now IF you do decide to buy a HD ready radio, by an alpine , hands down , but like i said tis an extra 200 on the price tag for hd. I personal have a jvc-kdhdr1 and it has a built in. When i drive in houston/ sournding area, its great, but when i drive out of town, i get so many less stations in HD. I may get the same station just not in HD. you can look up your local HD radio stations here
and see if you think its worth it. I love it , I wish more stations had it, it is probably the thing that will save common radio from sirus or xm radio, but The truth is many places do not have it yet. Oh yeah, i almost forgot… its free. no paying or fees
Hope I could help ya Skyler.
