HD radio is digital radio. Instead of the old analog signals that are still in use, Hd uses digital signals that offer crystal clear sound.

FM stations have CD quality sound
AM stations sound as good as the old FM stations

so theres a big improvement in quality.

HD also offers more channel options. One radio station can broadcast multiple 'shows' on one channel.
   ex. 97.5 97.5-1 97.5-2 97.5-3 97.5-4 etc etc....

A special HD Radio receiver is needed to obtain the stations and the quality. They have them both available for the home and auto.

If you live in the city it is definitely worth the investment. but if your in the country, just hold off till there are more stations that offer HD and the prices of the HD receivers come down.
